Welcome to RustyFerguson.com! I'm glad you're here. I hope you'll register and join in the discussion.

I am Living in The Philippines,

an American expatriate exploring the world. I am in Bogo city which is located in Northern Cebu Province. Bogo is a growing new city. Its roots are in fishing and I still consider it a fishing village but that is changing. I hope to live here for quite some time so I can watch it grow. Though I do have my sights set on Bantayan Island, a small Island just to the North West of our location.

I'm a retired accountant and computer analyst, please don't shoot me for working with the IRS! I figured since I couldn't beat them I might as well join them. :) I loved the job for a long time but due mostly to health reason, I retired early, at the age of 42!

To be honest, no matter how unpopular it is, I'm proud to have been a Revenue Agent at the IRS. It is not a job just anyone can do.

I am also a graduate of Millsaps College, a small and extremely difficult liberal arts college in Jackson, Ms. where I received my BBA in accounting in 1983. I'm proud of my degree. I got it despite many obstacles in my path. I put myself through college with virtually no help from family.

I'm trying to not let the health issues that hampered my career continue to rule my life, they've done enough damage. I want to get out and explore. I have to start slow and build. I may never be able to do all the things I'd love to do. Since arriving here, I've become fully alive for the first time in a long time and I'm working hard to hold on to that!

I have an awesome significant other. Her name is Jessie. She's a smoking hot woman from a warrior clan of the Philippines known as Waray Waray.

The term expatriate seems to imply I have something negative toward the USA. I don't. It is a wonderful country but it is only a small part of the world and I have to get out and find out what is out here. I dream of traveling all over this big blue marble. I hope it will come to pass. Being away from the US has only caused my appreciation for it to increase.

American People Will Be Hurt The Most?

It seems to me the people least likely to be hurt by a failure of General Motors are the same people that can most afford it. If General Motors files bankruptcy, sure the stock will tank but over the long haul, it will do just fine. The stock value will eventually recover.

Thus the stockholders which I’m sure includes employees at every level will be hurt the least over the long run. The exception being the employees working on the assemble line. Their contract will be re-negotiated if there is a bankruptcy and they will loose benefits, one would assume. That is the argument many are making for letting it fall into bankruptcy.

Dear Mr. Obama

Dear Mr. Obama

Letter to Barack Obama

Dear Mr. Obama,

Please keep your promises. I voted for you and even sent money to your campaign because of one major reason. You don’t take PAC Money and you don’t take Corporate money. All that other money people sent you was a vote for you too.

Dreaming Your Way to Success

Dreaming Your Way to Success

I had a thought of the day the other day, I think this is my second one. LOL

Positive results always start with a dream.

Another way to say it would be success always starts with a dream.

Even better I think is

Success often has its roots in just another crazy dream.

God's Wrath: Why Me Lord?

God’s Wrath: Why Me Lord?

God’s Punishment?

One of the most perplexing things about God is why bad things happen to good people. Some say it is God’s will, maybe God needs to teach someone through these pains and troubles. While I do think God can turn the bad into something positive, to give us something good from suffering, I don’t believe he brings them on in the first place.

God created the earth, then he turned it over to man. I don’t really see the apple and the serpent as an actual real story but rather a way to explain things to us. I don’t know this, but that’s what makes sense to me. God gave us a choice and that is what the fruit or apple represents. And man being man, well we like control and we like to do things our way.

Expatriate or Expatriot?

Expatriate or Expatriot?

I get a lot of questions about how I could leave the USA and move to another land where I have no family and no friends. A couple of days ago I received an email asking if I would be returning to the states since Obama won the election.

My leaving the US had nothing to do with politics, I do greatly prefer American politics. There are lots of reasons why people leave their home land and most of the time it is not because they have issues with their home land. I think in most cases, the people that leave their home countries for that reason will find plenty to not like in their new country.

Bailing out Detroit Again?

Here a Bailout, There a Bailout Every Where a Bailout

Detroit is the brain of USA auto manufacturing. From there thousands of suppliers of both parts and services branch out and provide jobs for even more Americans. It is an important US manufacturing business. A quick destruction of this industry would be devastating.

The industry has been in trouble for many years now. Since the 80’s the auto industry has been in trouble to one point or another. The conventional thinking of meeting the demand is just not going to work any more. Too many others can meet the demand. Instead, we must change the demand. The only way to do that is produce something that people will want once they know they can have it.

Philippine Photos for October 2008

While walking around Bogo City, I take pictures, lots of pictures and I try to go four times a week and walk at least 1.5 miles. So sometimes I get lazy, or the weather doesn’t cooperate or Jessie doesn’t cooperate. LOL It mostly matters how I feel on that day. I did go alone once in October as Jessie was feeling bad and she finally thinks I’m old enough to walk down to the wharf alone.

A Typical or Atypical Christian?

A Typical or Atypical Christian?

Christian Stereotypes

A few weeks ago, I watched some political satire on You Tube, it was good stuff. It was a bit condescending in tone. It was the elitist left we year so much about. There is a lot of WRONG, ideas that all of us born again Christians lean to the right. Jesus was way to the left of the political spectrum. I have been distressed by some on both the right and the left that seem to believe that all Christians hold positions like those of the Christian Coalition or the Moral Majority. I can assure you, all, nor even most think that way. Christianity is not about judging others, it is about loving them!

Freak Storm In Bogo City

If I seem to be missing in action, it is because we had a freak storm in Bogo City this morning. Winds came out of no place and knocked all the lights in the city out and blew down some trees, some that made it through Typhoon Frank.

I have been offline today because of that. We have had no electricity. I’m at an internet cafe now. Mostly to cool off. The temperature was abnormally low all day today and here at the cafe many Pinoy are wearing light jackets. Its about 27C or well above 75F. I suppose when your use to 80F it seems cold to them. I’m still hot. i need to returned to walking more as I finally am back to myself, I hope.
