You will never be an excellent war attacker unless you learn to get your troops where you want them. This is called pathing your troops and in most cases, you want to create a funnel to the town hall. You might want to create a funnel to another critical defense such as the Eagle Artillery or the Monolith. I almost always go toward the Eagle while I'm headed to the town hall.
I have noticed many people starting their attacks from the opposite side of the Eagle Artillery with no plan to take it out. Most will drop dragons in groups on the opposite side of the base. That is going to be a two-star attack.
One crucial thing about funneling is to not drop all of your troops in a huge clump. Drop them with a back-and-forth method.
Pick your objective, Usually the TH, and take out the Eagle Artillery along the way.
Drop two troops on each side of your attack.
Go back and forth, dropping one troop of the same type on the opposite sides. Watch any of my attacks and you'll see it.
This is a good but basic funneling tutorial. You have to choose the right method for you.
This video shows how to funnel. It is the most through video. For me, late attack funneling is not something I'm very good at. Most plans fall apart with first contact with the enemy. Still, I've learned through the years, that a plan is a must.
A more recent Funneling tutorial. Will give some more ideas.
